Outreach Liaison
Dr. Regina Royan is a 3rd year Emergency Medicine Resident at University of Chicago. After completing a Master’s of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan, Dr. Royan leveraged her skills in several professional capacities, as a research associate for the Chief Medical Executive of the State of Michigan during the implementation of the ACA and expansion of Medicaid, and later as a research epidemiologist in Detroit, MI. It was during her time in Detroit where she established herself as a leader in public health advocacy, and she was appointed as a Public Health Advisor for Demolition and Redevelopment for the City of Detroit by city council. In this position she coordinated efforts between several city, state, and federal departments and led the development of public health protections for a $100 million dollar grant from the US Treasury Department. In 2018 she was awarded the US Public Health Service National Award for Excellence in Public Health for this work. She later earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School where she served as Student Council President in her 4th year, and met her husband, Brian. After couples matching in Chicago, Dr. Royan was elected as the resident member of the Illinois College of Emergency Physician’s Board of Directors. She was also selected as the only resident speaker at the 2018 FeminEM Fix conference, using personal narrative to advocate for strategies to promote greater socioeconomic diversity in medicine. Dr. Royan also serves as a member of the advisory board and research council for the American Foundation for Firearm Injury Reduction in Medicine (AFFIRM) and helped develop a virtual community event focused on the intersection racism and gun violence in Chicago. Dr. Royan hopes to build a future career bridging her interests of emergency medicine and public health practice, and brings experience in epidemiology and public-academic partnerships to IMPACT.
